Dear Parents:

As the Football Season begins we would like to welcome you and your child to Watchung Hills Pop Warner Football. We are pleased to have your son or daughter in our organization, and look forward to an enjoyable and rewarding season with you and your child.

As we prepare for the upcoming season we would like to go over some guidelines and lay down some rules to help make this a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Parents have a tremendous impact on whether or not a child's experience in sports is positive or negative. From your seat in the sidelines, you influence the outcome of the game for your young athlete. What your child is learning on the field about teamwork, competition, dedication, responsibility, self-discipline and self-esteem is invaluable and you are a big part of their learning experience.

Here are some guidelines and on the next page will be some rules and an agreement between you, the parents, and your child's Coaching Staff for the season. These will go a long way to making your young athlete's sports experience more successful.

  • Be There! It's more fun for your child when you are on the sidelines and it is a great opportunity for you to meet your children's friends and other parents.
  • Responsibility can Be Fun! Teach your child responsibility and discipline in the world of sports. Get to the games and practices on time.
  • Encourage, don't Discourage! Cheer positively. Compliment your child and his teammates. Ask, "Did you have fun and try your best?"
  • Let the Referees Referee! Referees help teach fair play and sportsmanship and your reaction to their calls speak volumes to your child. Don't criticize the referees judgment
  • Lighten Up! Help relieve the pressure on your kids. Remember, children participate in organized sports for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Play hard, don't lose hard! Help your child turn his defeats into victories by reminding him that winning is more than points scored. Giving 110% is more important than winning at all costs. Teamwork, self-esteem, self-discipline, and good sportsmanship are the sign of a winner.
  • Let the Coaches Coach! Respect the coaches and their decisions. Coaches are volunteers who are doing their best to provide supervised fun for all the children.
  • Have fun! Relax and enjoy watching your child do his best.
Our Organization's Coaching Philosophy is as follows: we are here to teach your kids the fundamentals of football, cheerleading, and team play. We are here to stress good sportsmanship, self-discipline, cooperation as a team, personal commitment and always putting out your best effort. The emphasis is on fun with maximum participation leading towards learning in a recreational environment. Winning is a by-product of this emphasis.

Also, for the safety of our children, staff and parents, please see the field diagram below for some important information when you're at the practice facility.
